For Lack of a Better Name

This is a proactive reflection

This is a look back on the future’s past. This is what is, what will be, and already has been. This is the present, reformed. But only in this moment will everything fall into place, because that is all that ever is. There is nothing but the here and the now, and once its gone, it can never be again. Now is the time to seize the day, the hour, the minute. Now is the time for action, not reaction. This is the realization of a dream, because a dream in itself is nothing. A dream is but an image of the imagination, here for a moment, and if not created, gone the next. This is now.

2010 was a good year. There were ups and downs, but overall, it was an enjoyable experience. It started out with a bang, and though at times it faded, there was always another push to bring it right back up again. It was a year of realizations, revelations, and the acquisition of an experience unparalleled by any other.

Here are a few of the things i did this year

1. Worked on my fitness

For some reason unknown to me, I have always been ridiculously thin. I must have an extremely high metabolism or some such equivalent because I love to eat, and eat, and eat, but I have never been overweight, usually weighing in well below the average. However, this in no way means that I am fit or in shape. Sure, I could run for a while if I really needed to, or lift a few giant boxes, but in such things I am limited. Or was, at the start of this year, but throughout the year I have kept to my fitnessing and got more in shape and healthy. In addition to working out regularly, I bettered my diet to such extents as college life allows, in order to increase my personal health and well-being.

2. Reconnected with old friends, and made lots of new ones

In the beginning of 2010, I had approximately 850 friends on my facebook page, and in the course of the year, I attempted to contact and socialize with every single one of them. As personal precedent, I never added anyone on facebook who was not a friend, or at the very least, I had met before, but since the addition of many acquaintances on my social networking page, I had strayed far from many of them. Because of this, I wanted to reach out to a lot of people who I had not talked to in a long time, and, in doing so, had lots of unforgettable experiences in some very unlikely circumstances.

3. Finished my first year of college with a 3.5 cumulative GPA

My first semester of college was a fantastic experience for me. I had a lot of fun meeting many new people and getting used to living on my own. The downside to this was getting used to living on my own, and in doing so, my schooling, however minimally, suffered. I finished my first semester with a 3.1 GPA which I know is not bad, but it was not good enough for me. As this year began, I started the second semester of college and, dedicated to living up to my standards, I focused more on my school work in attempt to make all A’s for the semester, and raised my cumulative GPA to a 3.5.

4. Started a blog and kept up with it regularly

For a long time, I had wanted to start a blog but never had a chance to actually sit down and do it. That all changed with 2010. I finally made myself do it, and I actually maintained and updated it regularly throughout the year. With this, I posted my story to the world and made myself known. Maybe its not the biggest or the best, but I made it, and it is mine.

5. Made 1 million dollars

I always knew it was possible, but until this year, I hadn’t thought much about it, let alone actually tried doing something like this. There have been many people who became millionaires while still teenagers, but they all started working towards it years before they turned 20. I gave myself 9 months. Sure, it was a ridiculous goal, and in the beginning no one really believed I could do it, but as I got closer to the finish line, the skepticism dwindled and I began to realize how possible this really was. My 20th birthday present to myself: $1,000,000.

2010 has just started

I bet right now most of you are thinking I’m crazy or wondering what this note is really about, which I completely understand. 2010 has just started, and I know it will be good. I won’t let it not be good, because life is too short not to enjoy every moment, and make the best of everything we have. I once read that goals are much easier to accomplish when you view them from a completed standpoint, because the realization is so much more of a motivation than simply wishing that something will get done. Its a new year, and I won’t let it pass me by. I hate to give in to the traditional making of generic goals at the beginning of the year that we all know will never get done because, hell, we all know they will never get done. But for lack of a better name, these are my resolutions.
